What is the most important step to identify your skin type?
Every person’s skin is unique according to its specific needs, how it adapts to certain circumstances or seasonality. Taking time to learn your skin type will help you to choose the right options. This will balance skin resulting in a healthier, more radiant complexion.

- Dry Skin
If you have dry skin, it will dry and flaky. Your skin can develop a swallow tone, wrinkles, and fine pores. Dry skin is because of environmental factors such as lifestyle & diet, hormonal changes, and climate. It is also due to genetic reasons. One of the major factors for dry skin is dehydration.
Dry skin is also very prone to aging and it feels irritating. To keep it healthy you have to take care of it regularly.
- Normal skin
Normal skin feels vibrant, elastic and supple. Your skin would ideally look clean and smooth. But people with normal/combination skin often experience dryness on the cheeks. Those with normal skin are not prone to breakouts, acne problems on their face.
This skin type is generally lucky when it comes to the products they use. They don’t usually have any reactions to different products and don’t need any extra hydration or treatment from the products they choose.
- Oily skin
This skin type is characterized by an “increased amount of lipids on the skin surface due to overactive sebaceous glands.” That’s really just a fancy way of saying that this skin type over-produces oil and is known for it’s enlarged pores.
This skin type is prone to blackheads and other blemishes but if you have oily skin, you didn’t need me to tell you that. Puberty is often the cause of this skin type, though it’s also more common in men.
This skin type is the target of so many marketing campaigns. Time and time again we’ve heard that large pores are the devil and oil needs to be eradicated from the surface of our skin.
But oil is simply how our skin protects itself and oily skin simply needs help balancing their oil production to keep blemishes and high shine at bay.
How to identify your skin type?
Below are the few simple steps to identify your skin type:
· You should remove makeup and wash your face with a gentle cleanser, finally patting it dry. This will clean all dirt and oil from your skin.
· Wait for an hour after washing your face as this allows your skin to return to its normal state. The characteristics of this will determine your skin type and you should not touch your skin during this time.
· Dab your face with a tissue and concentrate the nose and the forehead, these are the two most important areas.
Finally, you will need to determine the skin type according to the result that shows on the tissue.
⦁ Normal skin would not show any oil or flakiness.
⦁ Oily skin would show up on the tissue very easily in the form of grease.
⦁ Dry skin may show flakes of dry skin on the tissue.
⦁ The combination is the most common one, as it exhibits traits of all the above.
