Shah Rukh Khan aka SRK aka Badshaah aka King Khan is a name which needs no introduction. He began his career with television serial Dil Dariya but due to production delay, Fauji became his debut serial. After starring in few other tv serials, he switched to Movies in the year 1992. He got Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut for his performance in Deewana and since then he has delivered some of the best performances by a male actor in Indian Cinema. Baazigar was a commercially as well as critically acclaimed film. Shah Rukh played role of an anti-hero which was not common during that time in Indian Cinema. His performance helped him bag his first of many Filmfare Best Actor Award.
Darr was a Blockbuster movie and Shah Rukh’s performance despite being an antagonist was praised by everyone. He was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Villain making it first time in the history of Filmfare awards an actor being nominated for both, Best Actor and Villain Award. The dialogue “I love you, K-K-K-Kiran” is one of SRK’s trademark dialogue.
Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (1994)
KHKN is a Hindi Romantic Coming of Age Movie. In this movie, SRK played the role of Sunil, a happy-go-lucky chirpy guy who is in love with a beautiful girl named Anna but is hesitant of telling her. The film is one of those few movies in which the lead hero is not the winner in the end but he surely does wins hearts. Khan won Filmafare’s Critics Award for Best Actor.
Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995)
Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, aka DDLJ, the epitome of Mainstream Bollywood Romantic Movie. Set in beautiful landscape of Europe and Punjab, DDLJ is the movie which made Shah Rukh Khan from an Actor to Star. All the girls wanted him and all the guys wanted to be like him. This movie gave Bollywood or rather the Indian Film Industry the Biggest Romantic Hero of All Time. Shah Rukh and Kajol’s pair was loved and admired by one and all.
The film won a total of 10 Filmfare Awards(most by a single film at that time) which includes Best Film, Director(Yash Chopra), Actress(Kajol) and Actor(Shah Rukh Khan) and a National Film Award as well.
It’s dialogues as well as many of it’s scenes have been copied in various films and tv serials.
Dil To Pagal Hai (1997)
Dil To Pagal Hai was released in 1997 which can also be called as SRK year as top 3 earners in the year were SRK’s films viz; Dil To Pagal Hai, Parde s and Yes Boss. Shah Rukh gave scintillating performance in all of them, but his performance in Dil To Pagal Hai was the best of them all. He lived the character; he was Rahul all along the movie and never looked like he was portraying a role. The film won 7 Filmfare Awards including Shah Rukh’s Best Actor Award and 3 National Film Awards.
Dil Se.. (1998)
Dil Se.. is one of most critically acclaimed movies done by Shah Rukh Khan. It is a journey through the seven shades of love that are defined in ancient Arabic Literature. The film went on to be the first Indian film to enter the top 10 in the United Kingdom box office charts and was included in Time Magazine’s Best of Bollywood list in 2010. It won 2 National Awards and 6 Filmfare Awards. Shah Rukh didn’t win Filmfare Best Actor award for Dil Se.. but he did win the award for his other film, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in the same year.
Devdas has been made more than 10 times. Sanjay Leela Bhansali did true justification while remaking the movie in 2002. With Star Studded Cast and larger than life sets, the film was set to break records and it did. It won 11 Filmfare Awards, including Best Film, Director, Actor, Actress among others and 5 National Film Awards. Performances by Shah Rukh, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit and Jackie Shroff were praised by one and all. Songs were a treat to ears.
Kal Ho Na Ho (2003)
Kal Ho Na Ho is a Romantic Comedy with Star Studded cast. Along with Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Preity Zinta, Dara Singh, Jaya Bachchan and Rema Lagoo were there in film.
The film is set in NYC and Shah Rukh plays the character of Aman who is a terminally ill patient.
Many of the critics compared Shah Rukh’s performance with that of Late Rajesh Khanna in Anand, which itself is a huge compliment. The film went on to be a commercial and critical success.
Veer-Zara, is a periodic romantic drama film which has all the elements a Yash Chopra movie has, Amazing Songs, Dialogues, Perfect Cast and Scenes that remains not only in your mind but your hearts as well.
It won 4 Filmfare Awards and 1 National Film Award.
Mohan Bhargava is the name of the character played by Shah Rukh in Swadesh, the NASA employee who comes back to India to take his nanny who took care of him while he was little, to USA. During his stay in rural India, Mohan gets to see India to its core.
It is a critically acclaimed film and Khan won Filmfare Award for Best Actor for the film.
My Name Is Khan (2010)
My Name is Khan is drama film set in the backdrop of Pots 9-11 Attacks. Khan played the role of Rizwan Khan, autistic man but has a special ability to repair things. He is paired against Kajol.
The film is both critically as well commercially acclaimed one.
Khan won Filmfare Award for Best actor for this film.
Dear Zindagi (2016)
Dear Zindagi is a coming-of-age Drama film. The film stars Alia Bhatt (as Kiara)in the Lead. Shah Rukh plays the role of a psychologist(Dr. Jehangir “Jug” Khan) who is known for his unconventional methods. Kiara is dissatisfied with her life and meets Jug whom she heard at a Mental Awareness Conference.
Amazing performance by Shah Rukh and Alia Bhatt was much appraised by everyone.
